2017 Keynote Speaker: Ruth Haskins, MD CMA President
Sacramento-area obstetrician and gynecologist Ruth E. Haskins, M.D., currently serves as president of the California Medical Association (CMA).
Dr. Haskins graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1985 before completing her four-year residency at the David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California. She continued her military service — eventually becoming Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois — until she completed her Air Force service in 1993 at the rank of Major.
Since then, Dr. Haskins has been practicing medicine primarily in the Sacramento area. She managed a solo OB/GYN practice in Fair Oaks for four years before serving as an associate professor at UC Davis from 1997 to 2008. After 2008, she returned to practicing solo, and now runs a thriving practice in Folsom.
Over her career, Dr. Haskins has been affiliated with a variety of organizations dealing with women’s health and physician advocacy. She has been a member of CMA and the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society for 22 years, serving as a CMA trustee from 2013 to 2015 and as chair of the CMA Council on Legislation from 2010 to 2013.
Dr. Haskins has been married to her husband, Christopher, an attorney, for 28 years and has two children in college, John-Marshall, at San Diego State University, and Nicholas, at the University of Oregon. In her spare time, she is an avid reader and a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
